WGA NZ | Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec - Luther Terblanche

Luther Terblanche Senior Coastal Modeller
HMTN

Luther brings nearly 20 years of experience in coastal engineering, port infrastructure, and both numerical and physical modelling. With a strong foundation in applied mathematics and a passion for using scientific principles and computing to solve real-world problems, Luther has built valuable experience working on complex projects across the maritime, mining, and defence sectors.

What excites him most is the variety these projects offer — from their technical challenges to the opportunity to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. His career has taken him across the globe, contributing to diverse and high-impact initiatives. Luther’s highlights include feasibility studies for the Port of Oakajee in Western Australia, using advanced numerical modelling techniques to assess moored ship motions and berth operability, and leading a physical scale model study for the Port of Khalifa, Abu Dhabi’s deepwater port, where he developed a new system to measure small-scale waves in a hydraulic laboratory.

While deeply committed to technical excellence and innovation, Luther believes the most rewarding aspect of his work lies in the people and the culture of the teams he collaborates with. At WGA, he aims to strengthen in-house capabilities in modelling and simulation and contribute his knowledge and experience in advancing our Ports and Marine sector.
