Sophia Klausner Graduate Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer
HMTN
Sophia accomplished her Master of Science – Environmental Engineering in her homeland of Germany, and her thesis led her to an international conference on Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR). There she met some of the WGA team, and pretty soon she was in Australia working with us. She originally joined our Perth office, and is now part of the WGA team in New Zealand, a place that happened to be on her travel bucket list.
From a young age Sophia was keen on rock climbing and followed this passion into studying geology. Geology led to geothermal energy, which led to groundwater, which led to her eventual specialty of water supply and groundwater management.
Sophia is passionate about sustainable water solutions, particularly combining flood management with groundwater replenishment. As these issues escalate with climate change, we’re fortunate that bright minds like Sophia’s are working on practical, impactful solutions.
